✔️ How does Leukin 50 work?

works by destroying the DNA and RNA of cancer cells which results in the inhibition of growth and spread of cancerous (blood) cells in the body thus managing leukaemia in affected individuals.

• Mercaptopurine may lower your blood cell count, therefore periodic monitoring of your blood cell count is recommended.

✔️ Side Effects

• Common:
  • Hyperuricemia, bone marrow toxicity (hypoplasia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia).
  • Gastrointestinal issues: Anorexia, diarrhea, intestinal ulceration.
  • Crystalluria with hematuria, immunosuppression, alopecia, cutaneous hyperpigmentation.
• Rare:
  • Interstitial pneumonitis.

✔️ Dosage of Leukin 50

Crohn’s Disease:

• Adult: 1–1.5 mg/kg daily, may increase up to 125 mg daily.
• Child: 1–1.5 mg/kg daily, up to a maximum of 75 mg daily.

Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL):

• Adult: 1.5–2.5 mg/kg daily as a single dose, typically with methotrexate. Monitor blood counts weekly.
  • Stop treatment if a sharp drop in white blood cells or severe bone marrow depression occurs.
  • Restart treatment slowly if the white cell count stabilizes or rises after 2–3 days.
  • Reduce the dose when used with allopurinol.
• Child: Same as adult dosage.
• Renal Impairment: Dosage adjustment may be needed.
• Hepatic Impairment:
  • Crohn’s disease and ALL: Dosage reduction recommended.

Take Leukin 50 as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

1. Ribavirin
   • Used for managing viral infections.
2. Other Cytotoxic Medicines
   • Used in chemotherapy for cancer treatment, such as doxorubicin and valrubicin.
3. Medicines for Gout
   • Allopurinol, thiopurinol, oxipurinol, febuxostat.
4. Medicines for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
   • Olsalazine, mesalazine.
5. Sulfasalazine
   • Used for rheumatoid arthritis or ulcerative colitis.
6. Methotrexate
   • Used to manage rheumatoid arthritis or severe psoriasis.
7. Infliximab
   • Used to treat Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and severe psoriasis.
8. Blood Thinners
   • Warfarin, acenocoumarol (used to prevent or treat blood clots).
9. Anti-epileptic Medicines
   • Phenytoin, carbamazepine (used to manage epilepsy).
10. Live Vaccines
    • Examples include flu vaccine, measles vaccine, and BCG vaccine.

✔️ In the event of an overdose:: Leukin 50

• There is no specific antidote for Leukin 50 Tablet.
• Supportive Care: Symptomatic treatment should be provided.
• Dialysis: Since MERTABTO is weakly bound to plasma proteins, it may be partially removed by dialysis.
• Monitoring: Regular monitoring of vital signs and blood counts is essential.

• Pregnancy and lactation.
• History of resistance to mercaptopurine or thioguanine.
• Severe liver disease or bone marrow suppression

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Monitor hepatic function periodically in cases of hepatic dysfunction.

• TPMT Deficiency:
  • Homozygous TPMT deficiency: Requires substantial dose reduction to avoid myelotoxicity.
